How To Make Your Hostel Life More Fun

For some students, university life means studying, chilling with friends and then returning to the comfort of their homes. For others (including me), university life was a completely different setup. It involved moving out of your home, sharing a room with four people, and giving yourself a fresh start. It meant managing finances, study, your own well-being and letting yourself have fun.

I am a resident of the girls hostel of Bahria University and I can say for sure that university life is a blast when you’re a hostel student. You’re living with new people, sharing experiences, complaining about the cook half the time and making every minute of your stay memorable.

Here are some tips to make your hostel life and in terms, your university life more enjoyable.

  • Customize your space to your liking. Let it be lights, pin-ups, wall hangings, frames etc. You’ll be able to tackle homesickness easily.

  •  Maintain a healthy relationship with your roommates. Please do not become a corner bird confined to your bed.

  • Get hobbies. In hostel, you’d be bored to death if you didn’t invest time into stuff you love. The main reason I joined the media club was to give myself some space to explore my love for writing and pass my time doing what I love.

  • Socialize among the residents. After work, we all gather up in the common room, eat together, drink ungodly amount of tea and coffee.

  • Find people of the same department as you. Chances are that it will help you relate to them study wise and help you out in your university life.

  •  Keep snacks at hand! Its exam season and you’re tired and the last thing you need is a backlog on your munching.  Keep your favourite foods at hand.

  • Handle finances. You get your monthly allowance. You burn it up and now you’re broke. The biggest reason of stress in hostel life is mismanagement of money. Keep a budget but allow yourself to have fun. In the end, you won't be stressing out with an empty wallet.

In the end, I would say that this is simultaneously the most responsible and most carefree time of your life. Enjoy it and make your hostel mates your family. You won't regret it.
